Street & Stormwater Department

The Street & Stormwater Department plays a vital role in keeping the City of Broken Arrow safe, functional, and accessible for residents and visitors. From maintaining roadways to managing the flow of rainwater across our community, this team works behind the scenes every day to ensure our infrastructure is reliable, clean, and ready for the future.

Streets Division is responsible for asphalt paving, base repair, filling potholes, and dump truck support.

Stormwater Division is responsible for storm drain repair, mowing, tree trimming/removal, drainage and concrete repair, and nuisance abatement.

Traffic Division maintains traffic signs, traffic and school zone signal systems, traffic calming devices, and street markings.

  • Repairing potholes and street damage

Stormwater teams help prevent flooding and protect homes and businesses by:

  • Cleaning and maintaining storm drains and culverts
  • Managing detention ponds and drainage channels
  • Inspecting systems for blockages or damage
  • Responding to heavy rainfall events

The Street & Stormwater Department offers several career paths:

Service Worker – Assists with concrete work; repairs storm drains and pipes; operates a wide range of equipment; and helps keep roads safe and passable. Duties include clearing clogged drains, repairing potholes, setting up traffic control, mowing and maintaining rights-of-way, removing debris after storms, and supporting City emergencies and special events.

Equipment Operator – Operates heavy equipment such as dump trucks, backhoes, skid steers, and street sweepers to support street and stormwater functions.

Truck Driver – Operates trucks and various heavy equipment to support the construction, repair, and maintenance of City streets and stormwater systems.

Crew Chief / Supervisor – Leads daily operations, assigns work, and oversees safety, quality, and team training.

Traffic Maintenance Technician – Installs, repairs, and maintains traffic control devices, including signs, pavement markings, and barricades, to ensure safe and efficient traffic flow throughout the City.

Traffic Signal Technician – Installs, maintains, troubleshoots, and repairs traffic signal systems and related electronic equipment to ensure proper operation of intersections and roadway signalization.
